They use paper they made themselves.

The materials are simple and
beautiful.

Split bamboo is used for the frame.
|

Paper tassels are attached for balance and
design.

The bamboo is joined at the middle with
string.
|
|
The string must be knotted just so and it
takes a long time to learn to do it right.
|
|
If it's not knotted evenly it won't be
balanced.
|
|
If it's not balanced it will not fly.
|
|
